This is a fantastic thread covering the history and details of the old Voodoo quad chip graphics card.
I found it while doing some random browsing and it’s such a good article I wanted to do more than simply bookmark it for later, I wanted to help share it because it was such a legendary piece of technology that never made it to market. I owned an older Voodoo 3 card, and I remember reading the news reports about this card and being utterly amazed at it. While the card never made it to market, it still had an impact on the world. Being one of 3dfx’s last attempts to stave off bankrupcy, it could have saved them if it wasnt for other trends in the market. But the legacy of 3dfx live on, as their designs laid the ground work for the first generation of GeForce cards after being aquired by Nvidia. If you’ve got a few spare moments, check out the article; and if by chance you have one of these boards floating around that you’d like to sell me… drop me a line.
